Yes, it can help, but the best way to get rid of wrinkles is still a hot iron or a trip to the dry cleaner.

“The steam a dry cleaner uses to press clothes is heated to 275° F, so it’s very dry and penetrates the fabric completely to relax the fibers,” says Steve “Mr. Drycleaner” Green, who owns a well-known dry-cleaning chain in the Los Angeles area. “But the steam produced by hot water in the shower is only in the high hundreds, so it’s wetter and doesn’t penetrate the fibers as well.”

Still, shower-steaming can help you look more put together in a pinch, says Tom Raffalski, who learned the art of dewrinkling while constantly on the go as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines. (He now trains flight attendants for the airline in Dallas.) His tip: “Put the shirt on a hanger and button it up, then turn it upside down, clip the bottom of the shirt to a clip hanger, and hang it up. Thread a heavy towel through the hook of the bottom hanger to pull the shirt taut. The tension on the fibers will help pull the wrinkles out as it steams.”
