Replace formal napkin rings with red luggage tags as an unexpected way to mark places at the table. Write each guest’s name on a piece of paper cut to fit in the tag’s window and insert it. Pull a napkin through the strap, buckled at the last hole. And don’t forget to let your guests know they can take their name tags home with them. Red luggage tags, $8 each, Lillian Vernon, www.lillianvernon.com.

Use these erasable 21/2-inch-square ceramic tiles for this holiday season, next year’s, and any dinner party in between. (Write on them with a dry-erase marker, and erase with a damp paper towel.) Another use for these tiles: to identify sheep versus goat on a cheese plate or exotic dishes on a buffet table. Plain Jane erasable ceramic tiles by PlaceTile Designs, $5 each, 404-875-4426.
