For weekend trips, packing right means packing light. Watch this video to learn how to pare down to travel essentials―and how a few key, versatile items will give you plenty of on-the-spot choices.
A small suitcase; the items you're packing, as listed below
1Make a packing listThink about your destination, then write down everything you plan to bring on your trip. Focus on the essentials first if you're heading to the beach, these might be a bathing suit, a hat, and sunscreen.
2Minimize your basicsPack two T-shirts, one long-sleeved shirt, and a sweater. This combination will allow you to layer your tops as the weather
changes. Consider wearing the sweater to save room in your suitcase.
Tip: Choose pieces of clothing in colors that complement one another, so you can mix and match for maximum wardrobe flexibility.
3Pack undergarmentsTo save space, bring just the undergarments you'll need three pairs of underwear, two pairs of socks, and a bra. Likewise,
instead of bulky pajamas, carry a light nightgown. Wear your favorite pair of jeans in the car or on the plane, and pack a
second pair of pants or a skirt or dress.
Tip: Substitute a wrap dress for the pants or skirt. It won't wrinkle easily, it can be worn day or night, and it'll save you
room because it eliminates the need for one of the shirts.
4Pack all-purpose shoesPack one pair of comfortable, versatile shoes, such as loafers or flat sandals, that will work for day and night. If you have a more formal evening event planned, pack one pair of dress shoes. Place shoes in a plastic bag, so they don't get your clothes dirty.
5Keep toiletries tinyPack travel-size toiletries, which you can pick up at most drugstores. If you can't live without a particular face wash or conditioner, buy an empty travel-size container (also available at most drugstores) and fill it with your favorite product.
6Accessorize lightFinally, bring a couple of pieces of jewelry and a scarf or other accessory that will dress up your outfits for evening.
