How to Decorate the Let It Snow and Blue Christmas Snowflake Cookies
There are endless ways to decorate snowflake cookies so that no two are alike. Here are two easy designs.
What You Need:
sugar cookies, white cookie icing, icing bottle ($20; sweetdanib.com), paper plate, white nonpareils, toothpick, large tweezers ($10; sweetdanib.com), white sugar pearls, fine sanding sugar in blue, clean paintbrush
To make the Let It Snow cookie: Using a bottle filled with white icing, draw 3 straight lines through the center of the snowflake from tip to tip. Draw 3 shorter lines through the center to create a star pattern. Draw “V” shapes on each flourish.
Tip: For straight lines, hold the tip of the bottle ¼ inch above the cookie and let the icing drop down.
On a paper plate, sprinkle the cookie with white nonpareils, making sure to cover the icing completely. Shake off the excess nonpareils.
Tip: An inexpensive paper plate is best. Conserve the excess nonpareils by bending the plate and pouring the candies back into their original container for future use.
Use a toothpick to remove any extra nonpareils that are sticking to the cookie. Let dry for 12 hours.
To make the Blue Christmas cookie: Using a bottle filled with white icing, draw 3 straight lines through the center of the snowflake from tip to tip, pausing at the start and end of each line to create a dot of extra icing (called “pooling”). Draw 3 shorter lines through the center to create a star pattern, pausing at the start and end. Draw “V” shapes on each flourish, pooling at the tip of each “V.”
Using tweezers, place a sugar pearl at the tip of each line and one in the center of the snowflake.
On a paper plate, sprinkle the cookie with blue sanding sugar, making sure to cover the icing completely. Shake off the excess sugar.
After the cookie has dried completely for 12 hours, use a brush to remove any extra sugar.
