Pinterest is a great source of inspiration for food, crafts, home decor, fashion, and more—so it only makes sense that the social media platform can also help to predict the latest trends. Now, for the first time ever, Pinterest has announced its own Colors of the Year for home, fashion, and beauty. To pinpoint the trending colors, the "Pinsights" team on Pinterest analyzed the dominant color of pins from 2015 across different categories (that’s more than 5.6 billion fashion, 2.6 billion home decor, and 1.2 billion beauty pins).
In the home decor category, the team found gray and mauve were the top colors, with the former being the leading neutral color. For women’s fashion, blush pink—rose quartz specifically—spiked in popularity (possibly with help from Pantone, which announced the shade as its Color of the Year); while mint green also saw a big increase in ladies’ clothing and accessories. In men’s fashion, Astronaut blue, which is similar to cobalt, and chambray took the top spots. And in the beauty category, dark blue, dark green, and lavender all saw a jump in popularity for hair, makeup, and nails.
If Pinterest is onto something, you can expect to see more of these colors as 2016 rolls on. And it might only be a matter of time before you start incorporating these hues into your home and wardrobe.
