The Best Space Heaters
Space-Heater 101
Where should I put my heater for best results?
Since heat rises, it’s best to set it on the floor rather than on a table or a dresser. Steer clear of thick carpet or tile;
uneven surfaces can cause a unit to tip.
Are there places I shouldn’t use my space heater?
Space heaters and bathrooms generally don’t mix; moisture can seep into the heating elements. Locate a heater so bedding and
curtains are at least three feet away.
Can I use an extension cord?
You shouldn’t. It can cause overheating. Plug the unit directly into a wall outlet.
What’s the difference between ceramic- and fan-based heaters?
Heaters with ceramic elements are known for emitting a nice even heat and typically cool down faster than heaters with wire
elements or coils.
What’s that burning smell coming from my heater?
Most likely, it’s caused by dust hitting the heating element. Every couple of weeks, swipe the surface of the heater’s grates
with your vacuum’s hose attachment to clear dust from the inside. (Be sure the heater is unplugged when you clean it.)
