Shopping online should save you not only from the crowds at the malls, but also the time and hassle of actually getting to the store and then secretly stashing your presents when you get home. In a way, it does (still no traffic or crowds—plus, you can sit on the couch and wait for the holiday feast to cook while you shop). Sometimes the outside label can help. But if you're shopping somewhere like Amazon there's still a bit of mystery, since they sell, well, just about everything. Until now, you've had to open the package to see exactly what's inside and then tape it back up and hide it... or wrap it right away. But thanks to a new feature announced by Amazon today, those days are over: You can see what's inside that box on your stoop without ever opening it.

You'll need an iPhone and the Amazon app to do so (it's free to download), but it couldn't be easier to use. Simply open the app, select the camera icon on the upper right side, click package x-ray on the bottom right side, then take a picture of the white shipping label. Pictures of what's inside the box will appear in seconds. All you need to do now is wrap and tag the gift, in its original packaging, then place it under the tree.
