How To: Make a Seasonal Welcome Mat

Festive Holiday Welcome Mat stepsSherry and John Petersik/ younghouselove

What You Need
Natural Fiber Doormat (Ikea.com for stores)
Green Enamel Based Spray Paint
Painter's Tape
Scissors
Newspaper

  1. Create the shape of the reindeer antlers on your mat with small strips of painter's tape. It's only tape so it's OK if you make mistakes.
  2. Go to a well-ventilated area and place your doormat on the newspaper. Apply 1 to 3 thin and even coats of spray paint on the exposed area of the mat. (The taped off portion remains unpainted.) Keep the nozzle of your can about 8 to 10 inches away from the mat, and always keep your hand moving while spraying to prevent blotches or drips.
  3. After allowing the spray paint to dry for a few hours, carefully remove the taped off antler pattern to reveal your fun DIY doormat.
