How to Choose Peanut Butter
Unblended, natural peanut butters (which have a layer of oil on top) are the healthiest choice. Other peanut butters have added emulsifiers, often in the form of sweeteners like maltodextrin and partially hydrogenated oils, to keep the oil from separating. Look for brands that contain only peanuts, peanut oil, and salt—many nut butters labeled “natural” contain unhealthy oils like palm. Also beware of low-fat versions, which replace some of the peanuts with additives like corn syrup solids. -
How to Store Peanut Butter
Refrigerate natural peanut butters after opening for up to 6 months. Others can be stored at room temperature for 6 months. -
