An A to Z guide to choosing, storing, preparing, and cooking fresh produce and recipe ingredients.

  • How to Choose Dill
Choose sprigs that are bright in color (no browning or discoloration) and have a fresh fragrance. Use fresh dill whenever possible. Dried dill, while universally available, has minimal flavor.

  • How to Store Dill
Wrap the herb in a slightly damp paper towel and store it inside a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; the delicate fronds wilt quickly after being picked.

    How to Prepare Dill
Just before using, wash the dill and blot it dry with a paper towel. The herb loses its flavor when heated, so either add it at the very end of cooking or use it as a garnish.

  • How to Use Dill
Dill is classically paired with fish and potatoes, used in dips, and added to pickling brines for cucumbers.
