Grate the tomatoes on the widest side of a box grater.

Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until golden, about 5 minutes. Stir in the pork, 1 teaspoon salt, and ¾ teaspoon pepper. Cook, stirring, until browned, 3 minutes. Add the tomatoes, Worcestershire, and brown sugar. Simmer, stirring often, until thick, about 12 minutes.

Sandwich the Sloppy Joe mixture and apples between the buns. Serve with the crudités.

Ingredients

  1. Check 2 pounds ripe tomatoes (about 4)
  2. Check 2 tablespoons canola oil
  3. Check ½ onion, finely chopped
  4. Check 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  5. Check pounds ground pork
  6. Check Kosher salt and black pepper
  7. Check 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  8. Check 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  9. Check 2 Granny Smith apples, cut into matchsticks
  10. Check 4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
  11. Check Crudités (such as carrot and cucumber sticks), for serving

Directions
