Old Blighty Mustard Mix

Inspired by pub mixes (designed specifically to keep you drinking), this mix is an addictive blend of sweet and salty. The great thing about party mixes is that you can design them to suit your preferences. We like the sophisticated feel that the dried apples lend, but if you want to go purely savory, you can leave them out. Pretzel sticks would be a fine substitute for the potato sticks (but we’ve also just thrown a handful of potato chips in there with excellent results). Beer’s the thing for this one, so serve with a crisp pale ale.

Ingredients

  1. Check 3 tablespoons honey
  2. Check 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  3. Check 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  4. Check 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  5. Check 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  6. Check tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  7. Check teaspoons black pepper
  8. Check 3 cups Bugles corn snacks
  9. Check 3 cups potato sticks (such as Pik-Nik)
  10. Check 2 cups Rice Chex cereal
  11. Check 2 cups freeze-dried apple slices (about 1½ oz.), crumbled

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 275°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper; coat parchment with cooking spray.
  2. Whisk together honey, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, butter, thyme, vinegar, and pepper in a large bowl. Add Bugles, potato sticks, and Rice Chex; toss gently to coat. Spread mixture in an even layer in prepared baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven until mixture is tacky but not moist, 25 to 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
  3. Transfer baking sheet to a wire rack; cool mixture completely, about 20 minutes.
  4. Transfer mixture to a bowl. Add crumbled apple slices; toss to combine.
