  • “I wind up with streaks.” Use a tinted tanner so you can see the color as soon as you apply it and avoid missing spots. And be sure to rub in the product with long strokes.
     
  • “My ankles look blotchy.” Moisturize your skin before putting on tanner. Dry skin (like that on the ankles) can soak up too much DHA.
     
  • “I can’t apply tanner to my back.” Ask a friend. Or try the Body Buddy ($25, bodybuddy.com), a nonabsorbent lotion applicator. Put tanner on the applicator, then wield it the same way you use a towel to dry your back.
