Other Than Heels, What Shoes Work With a Skirt?
Real Simple answers your questions.
Anja KroenckeQ: I’m on my feet all day. Is there a skirt-friendly shoe that isn’t a heel?
A: You’re in luck. “You’ll see a lot of flat suede boots in stores this season,” says Jennifer Gosselin, vice president and
general manager of Piperlime, a shopping site specializing in footwear.
This knee-high style looks sophisticated with anything from full skirts and A-line dresses to narrow silhouettes. Regardless
of your skirt or dress, says Gosselin, it will look most flattering if the hems go well over the tops of the boots or there
are a few inches between the hems and the boot tops.
Once the weather warms up, opt for flats, which will pair well with any skirt length. Gosselin likes versions with padded
foot beds or rubber outsoles, such as polished and not-too-flimsy styles from Delman, Kenneth Cole Reaction, and Maria Sharapova
for Cole Haan.
And remember: Supportive heels do exist, says Gosselin, who suggests chunky rubber-soled heels from Camper and pumps with
shock-absorbing cushions from Gentle Souls by Kenneth Cole. “Shoes with a hidden platform or a slight wedge also provide a
stable lift,” says Gosselin.
