Big Bangs Theory

Flattering thick fringe, à la Zooey Deschanel, played a starring role on the spring runways. Here’s how to get the look, according to Mark Townsend, a celebrity hairstylist based in Los Angeles.

What to tell your stylist: Ask for bangs that start one to three inches back from the hairline, with jagged ends that hit right between the brows and the lashes. Trim every two weeks or so. (Yes, they’re a commitment.)

How to style them: Work volumizing mousse (Townsend likes Dove Style+Care Nourishing Amplifier Mousse; $4, walmart.com) through damp hair. Holding a blow-dryer set to medium above your head, dry bangs to the left, then switch to the right. By the time they’re dry, the bangs will hang straight down. Apply hair spray to a small brush, then run through bangs to set.
