Pony Bun

That messy half-in, half-out updo you wear on the weekends? Think of this fresh-off-the-runway look as the polished, workweek version—and it takes only a tad more effort.

Step 1: Pull hair into a low pony-tail and  tuck the ends through the elastic to form a loop. Mist with hair spray to tame flyaways.

Step 2: Separate a thin strand from the loop (using a tail comb keeps it neat) and wrap it around the elastic to conceal it as well as any loose ends. Pin in place.

To buy: Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray, $16.50, redken.com for salons. Goody hair pins, $4 for 100, Walmart. Mason Pearson tail comb, $22, bigelowchemists.com.

Tip: Have shoulder-length hair? Instead of tucking ends through the elastic, pin them into a loop at the base of the ponytail.
