As an adjunct professor of political theory at Columbia University, “I don’t have to be overly formal at my job,” says Giunia, who gets a cut a few times a year and blow-dries the result for “a couple of minutes” every other day. Still, she wishes her hair weren’t so frizzy and thinning—which is why she doesn’t grow it long.
