Built-in Control bootcut jeans by Shape FX

Q. I wear a size 16. Can I pull off white denim?

A. Of course! Sarah Hodge of Mytruefit.com offers suggestions to make sure you wear it well.

Try different sizing. Instead of misses sizes (which usually run up to 18), you may get a more accurate fit with jeans in women’s sizes (which are labeled with a W and range anywhere from 14 to 34). “Women’s sizes are adjusted proportionately in the rise, waistband, and hips to accommodate a fuller figure’s curves,” says Hodge.

Consider your shape. Figures that tend to carry weight around the middle can wear straight legs, while pear shapes look best in trouser and flare cuts (try Paris flares by Svoboda; $128, svobodastyle.com). A universally flattering pair for all is Built-in Control bootcut jeans by Shape FX (shown above; $59, shapefx.com), which have a slimming panty that flattens the tummy and lifts the rear.

Pair your white denim with the right top. “Any shape will look good in a not-too-voluminous Empire-waist tunic in a summery shade or a small print,” says Hodge.
